The Paleolithic Diet and Its Modern Implications: An Interview with Loren Cordain, PhD

This author, Loren Cordian, provides valuable insight to the affect of the food grid on others.

Robert Crayhon: There has been in the past 40 years or so much interest in the area of low fat diets, and it seems that the media and USDA with its food guide pyramid is now convinced that a healthy diet is one that is predominantly carbohydrate, low in fat and protein. There is also little regard for the quality of the fat or protein. But are we really just in some great agricultural experiment? Has the last 10,000 years of agriculture really been the bulk of what the human nutritional experience has been? And is this grain-based, high carbohydrate diet truly ideal for humans?

Loren Cordain: There is increasing evidence to indicate that the type of diet recommended in the USDA’s food pyramid is discordant with the type of diet humans evolved with over eons of evolutionary experience. Additionally, it is increasingly being recognized that the “food Pyramid” may have a number of serious nutritional omissions. For instance, it does not specify which types of fats should be consumed. The western diet is overburdened not only by saturated fats, but there is an imbalance in the type of polyunsaturated fats we eat. We consume too many Omega-6 fats and not enough Omega-3 fats. The Omega-6/Omega-3 ratio in western diets averages about 12:1, whereas data from our recent publication (Eaton SB, Eaton SB 3rd, Sinclair AJ, Cordain L, Mann NJ Dietary intake of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids during the Paleolithic Period. World Rev Nutr Diet 1998; 12-23) suggests that for most of humanity’s existence, prior to agriculture, the Omega-6/Omega-3 ratio would have ranged from 1:1 to 3:1. High dietary Omega-6/Omega-3 ratios are associated with increased risk for cardiovascular disease, some types of cancer, and tend to exacerbate many inflammatory disease responses.

Further, the USDA food pyramid places breads, cereals, rice and pasta at its base and recommends that we consume 6-11 servings of these items daily. Nutritionists at the Harvard School of Public Health (Willett WC. The dietary pyramid: does the foundation need repair? Am J Clin Nutr. 1998;68: 218-219) have recently publicly criticized this recommendation because it fails to distinguish between refined and complex carbohydrates and their relative glycemic responses. Dr. Willett further pointed out that there was little empirical evidence to support the dominant nutritional message that diets high in complex carbohydrate promote good health.

Both the fossil record and ethnological studies of hunter-gatherers (the closest surrogates we have to stone age humans) indicate that humans rarely if ever ate cereal grains nor did they eat diets high in carbohydrates. Because cereal grains are virtually indigestible by the human gastrointestinal tract without milling (grinding) and cooking, the appearance of grinding stones in the fossil record generally heralds the inclusion of grains in the diet. The first appearance of milling stones was in the Middle East roughly 10-15,000 years ago. These early milling stones were likely used to grind wild wheat which grew naturally in certain areas of the Middle East. Wheat was first domesticated in the Middle East about 10,000 years ago and slowly spread to Europe by about 5,000 years ago. Rice was domesticated approximately 7,000 years ago in SE Asia, India and China, and maize (corn) was domesticated in Mexico and Central America roughly 7,000 years ago.

Consequently, diets high in carbohydrate derived from cereal grains were not part of the human evolutionary experience until only quite recent times. Because the human genome has changed relatively little in the past 40,000 years since the appearance of behaviorally modern humans, our nutritional requirements remain almost identical to those requirements which were originally selected for stone age humans living before the advent of agriculture.

Want to feel great? Eat only real Salt, drop Dairy and Wheat. No ifs, ands or buts.

Eat only real Salt, drop Dairy and Wheat. Drink lots of filtered water,  No ifs, ands or buts.

The common response when I tell people that the foods they eat are pushed on them for the sole purpose of making them ill is ‘that makes no sense’.  I strongly urge anyone who questions or thinks for themselves will realize that all is not right with the world.  Science is slowly catching up with the lies, but the administration makes any truth about the food we eat almost impossible to fight against.  The entire system is one giant pacification and death machine.  Anyone familiar with the exponential growth of human beings, animals, bacteria, will realize that the current system cannot be maintained.  The average growth rate in most American cities is between 5 and 7 percent.  This means the growth rate doubles the population every 10 years.   If the trend holds without interference there will be almost 600 million people in the U.S. by the year 2021.  How many here think that is a sustainable population with the current resources?  Raise your hands.

So what is the solution?  Well there are many.  China didn’t shy from this looming issue, eventuality, they made the number of children a couple could have LESS than the replacement figure (1), yet their population has steadily been on the climb and now tops 1 billion.  Any guess what a 2040 world will look like with 50 billion people or more?   Hell on earth.  So is it really so ‘out there’ that those in power – no not the Federal Governments of the world – have enacted a plan to both control and KILL their populations.  Reduced lifespan means lowered growth figures.  We haven’t even gotten to the really good population control measures yet.  The storm attack on the gulf with Katrina was the first. (a natural storm allowed to come ashore, technology to bust storms has been present for 50+ years, as well as engineered bacteria that eats oil. The gulf has been under attack for 10 years).    It must be obvious to anyone living there that this an attack on their food source, their way of life, and the ability of the area to feed it’s people, not to mention some of the more esoteric concerns, like the southern states still retain massive amounts of American Libertarians which when the gloves come off will be of genuine concern to those in power.

So, wake up.  Do some research.

If you go to google and search for “wheat genetic autoimmune” you will see the articles and information that doctors scoff at and ridicule you for believing, but the proof they say is in the pudding.

Google “autoimmune dairy disease”  you will find enormous support for the idea that Milk and dairy products are not good for a large percentage of us.

Google “contents seasalt vs. contents table salt”  you will find that NaCl is erroneously called ‘salt’ and put in everything.  It’s an intentional act meant to addict us to a very toxic substance when consumed stripped of it’s natural components – 80+ minerals and compounds.

If you want to get healthy, it will first require you to actively take part in waking up your mind to the alternatives.  Firstly, that our diet has absolutely NOT been a normal human diet, the correct diet for the creature we are physically is that which existed prior to agriculture.  We are a creature of the earth.  Using common sense and logic it’s not to hard to find out that we as Homo Sapien have been eating grains only for a short period of our evolutionary experience. Evolutionary scientists state is the minimum generational span to fully adapt to a new food source is 500 generations or approximately 10,000 years.  Since Wheat has been in our diet for between 5 and 2,000 years depending on who you read, it means that if evolution is to be trusted, only a small percentage of us are even partially adapted to the foodsources wrought by agriculture, which includes all dairy, all grains, all domesticated animal flesh… It’s like a community of lions suddenly deciding to only eat grass and people.  They would die horribly over generations.  Sound familiar?

Based on the estimated 1.5 million year evolutionary span for upright hominids, our agriculture represents 0.4% of our history.  Using common sense do you not question how the media could tell you that Dairy and Grain is supposed to be in our diet?  There is ZERO evidence to support this.   ZERO.  If you ask anyone who does not eat these food groups they will tell you that once they removed these items their general health improved as well as their mental clarity and emotional stability.

Do your own research.  Your health and happiness is literal at stake.  (not steak)

To start, try this article, it should at least make you question what is in your fridge.    You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.

If Dairy can cause diabetes, what about RA, MS and other autoimmune disorders.

When people with celiac disease eat foods or use products containing gluten, their immune system responds by damaging or destroying villi—the tiny, fingerlike protrusions lining the small intestine. Villi normally allow nutrients from food to be absorbed through the walls of the small intestine into the bloodstream. Without healthy villi, a person becomes malnourished, no matter how much food one eats.   read more…

Doctors all say vaccines are safe and effective.

WRONG.  Some doctors, the ones that want to buy a new boat or fish in Brazil half the year tell us that vaccines are safe.

Those who cry out at the top of their lungs against vaccines, those who have witnessed first hand the devestation they can bring, those who have intimate knowledge of what these poisonous vaccines do all agree.  It’s deadly.  This doctor explains exactly why vaccines should be avoided and what the do.

Innoculations: The True Weapons Of Mass Destruction

Has your mother warned you about eating tuna because of the mercury?  How about tooth fillings?  There was a huge scare a few years ago about fillings that contain mercury.  It seems by the evidence that they are trying to keep us away from mercury.  Well, this is a sensible precaution, since mercury is incredibly toxic to organisms.  In fact, ethylmercury, an organic form of the element is related to methylmercury which is so deadly one drop on a latex glove can cause death!

Ethylmercury is a breakdown product of the antibacteriological agent ethylmercurithiosalicylate, which has been used as a topical antiseptic and a vaccine preservative (further discussed under Thiomersal below). Its characteristics have not been studied as extensively as those of methylmercury. It is cleared from the blood much more rapidly, with a half-life of 7 to 10 days, and it is metabolized much more quickly than methylmercury. It probably does not have methylmercury’s ability to cross the blood-brain barrier via a transporter, but instead relies on simple diffusion to enter the brain.[1]

Wikipedia.

So is this stuff actually in the vaccines they want us to take?   It’s hard to determine this.  I found one reference to the actual contents of the H1N1 posted below, but of course, the source has been removed.  They really, really, don’t want us to know how deadly this is.  The irony is, the site this post is from is selling the company line suggesting that it’s OK and recommended to both take the vaccine yourself, and to give it to children and pregnant women!

Engage Logic Filter – There are hundreds of reports and first hand stories about how a vaccine can make you ill for the rest of your life.   I actually blame vaccines for the fact my mother (whom is a nutritionist and ate reasonably well) is now living in a hospital bed with both extreme Fibro and extreme RA.      If you too are suspiciious of the product and the motivation to shove it down our throats over more sensible alternatives like oh… washing your hands, eating properly and reducing your social interaction – than may I suggest you start doing some reading.  They count on us being good little automatons, so luckily most evidence is hidden right there in plain sight.  If you engage the logic filter, and start looking, you will see it, and your life will be changed.

Yet somehow grain and dairy ended up as our primary food.

I don’t know about you, but I grew up wondering what these people were going on about pushing cheese, grain and milk on us in school.  Once I found history and the concept of evolution the way our health system is organised overnight became a joke to me.  How can a creature evolve over millions of years on one diet, then within a evolutionary blink of an eye change it completely then wonder why half the population has rampant illness and allergy related immune system issues.

We need to wake up and look at our lives and diets objectively from a natural perspective.  We don’t have a problem understanding that if we feed a cat grains and dairy they may become ill and starve to death.  Nobody would fail to understand how it’s important feed an animal food from which it can get nutrients to thrive.

So the question is, what is our natural diet?  Many people have differing opinions on this issue, but again a common sense, logical approach seems a good way to handle it.  Logically, if it’s known that grains and dairy have only been with us for less than 1/2 of 1 percent (0.4%) of our existence as Homo Sapiens, one could assume that even those living and evolving during that period, actually in a culture rife with grain and dairy how much could we really adapt?  Isn’t it logical that physical suffering resulting from affects of a diet oozing with dairy and grain might be possible?  Couldn’t it be possible that from birth we have been programmed to believe that dairy and grain are supposed to be HALF of our diet?  Examine any child’s school lunch and you will see a composition roughly inverse the way it should be.  Instant gratification and the erosion of the village family have lead to parents held hostage to their own children by big corporations.

Do you think it’s accidental that foods are loaded with salts and sugars?

Humans may have indeed eaten these foods for “millennia,” but millennia (even 10 millennia) in the overall timeframe of human existence represents 0.4%. Because the estimated amount of genetic change (0.005%) which has occurred in the human genome over this time period is negligible, the genetic makeup of modern man has remained essentially unchanged from that of pre-agricultural man [Eaton et al. 1985]. Consequently, the human genome is most ideally adapted to those foods which were available to pre-agricultural man, namely lean muscle meats, limited fatty organ meats, and wild fruits and vegetables–but, significantly, not grains, legumes, dairy products, or the very high-fat carcasses of modern domesticated animals.

Genetically Modified Organisms. Logic be damned.

Consider the following facts:

-GMO effect on humans has been left unstudied.  There have been no long term studies nor any sigificant exploration of effects we have already seen in animal testing and the limited human experimentation already done.

-GMO products have filtered their way to at least 60% of foods available to us and consumed by us daily.  This is a conservative estimate based on what they are admitting to.

-There are very little controls or laws in place to limit or even TRACK how much or what GMO products are being baked, mixed and simply added to our foods, not to mention the food of our pets and the animals which we eat.  In fact any discussion by concerned citizens is openly mocked and discarded.

-Animals often will chose starvation over eating GMO foods, which begs the questions A) how do they know?  and B) Why are we ignoring this?

With the above in mind ask yourself a few questions.

1. What possible reason would any government have to allow such potentially devastating substances be added to almost everything, yet criminalize injectable vitamin C?

2. What benefit could GMO food being added to our food to make such an undertaking worthwhile?

3. Why is everyone ok with this?

I did, and my answers were:

1A. Control.

2A. Control.  If the minuscule amount of research on GMO products is accurate and extrapolating from there I can see the ingenuity of the plan.   By eating GMO products it’s possible to add genetic function from the GMO to existing bacteria in one’s GI tract.  Thus, one’s own population of organisms starts to behave in manner of the GMO.  Think about this.  As a GMO scientist I could create a corn chip that once eaten changes the bacteria in your gut to continuously and in perpetuity manufacture pesticides thus over time making you ill and possibly suffering from symptoms ranging from undefinable pain to fibromyalgia to MS.  Of course we never assume that such a complex and scary tactic could even be real.  How many people do you know that are suffering from some strange ‘malaise’ unexplained by doctors, and unresolvable by their ‘cures’ (see. Pharmacorp).

3A.  Everyone isn’t OK with this.  However if you study history it’s clear that in every single case where the higher-ups were pulling something fishy on the average person.. in almost every case.. they were completely caught unaware.  Revolution almost always comes only when the bad guy comes and burns down your house, or executes your daughters.   So it’s no great surprise that the average person ambles through life cell phone in hand completely scoffing at those trying to point out the obvious all the while blindly and cheerfully surrendering their rights one after another in the name of protection from a phantom menace.

GMO’s are present in 60% of processed, pre-packaged, and fast foods – all staples of Standard North American Diet.  Many believe with good reason that they pose grossly under-researched potential dangers. Processed food giants Nestle, Quaker, Kraft, Nabisco, Kellogg’s, Heinz’s, Pepsi, and Coca Cola (to name a few) use common GMO ingredients and derivatives from soy, sugar, corn, canola, and cotton in virtually all of their products

An article worth reading.

For example, genes from an arctic flounder (which has natural “antifreezing” properties that protect it from the frigid waters) may be injected into tomato DNA to make a new breed that is more resistant to frost damage. It sounds like a sci-fi movie, but it’s reality. And, according to the FDA, over 75 percent of processed food in the United States may contain GMOs. Foods with genetically modified ingredients don’t have to be labeled, though, so you’re probably eating them every day without even knowing it.

————————–

• A preliminary study from the Russian National Academy of Sciences [found] that more than half the offspring of mother rats fed GM soy died within three weeks (compared to 9% from mothers fed natural soy).
• [An] estimated 10,000 sheep died in India within 5-7 days of grazing on GM cotton plants engineered to produce their own Bt-toxin pesticide.
• The only human GM feeding study ever published show[ed] that the foreign genes inserted into GM food crops can transfer into the DNA of our gut bacteria. This study gives new meaning to the adage, “You are what you eat.” Long after those GM corn chips you munched are history, your intestinal flora may still be churning out the “Bt” pesticide GM corn plants have been engineered to produce.

Reality is that the FDA has absolutely no GMO safety testing requirements, and GM ingredients are ubiquitous in prepared foods. Unless a processed food contains only organic ingredients, it is highly likely to contain GM ingredients. The “research” that supports GMO safety is voluntarily provided by companies on their own GM crops and has been described by critics as “meticulously designed to avoid finding problems”.

But 44,000 FDA internal documents later made public as a result of a lawsuit revealed problems. The overwhelming consensus among the FDA’s scientists was that GM foods were substantively different, so different that their consumption might result in unpredictable and hard-to-detect allergens, toxins, new diseases and nutritional problems. Agency scientists urged superiors to require long-term studies, but were not only ignored, their statements about possible negative effects of GMOs were progressively deleted from FDA policy statement drafts.
